Upper Gastrointestinal Endoscopy

Endoscopy at the hospital. Doctor holdin

Gastroclinic is a pioneer in Portugal in the use of UltraHD, multiLED equipment that allows advanced image quality for the most accurate and early diagnosis.

For greater patient comfort, all exams can be performed under anesthesia.

This exam will allow the Doctor to observe your esophagus, stomach and duodenum.

For this purpose, an endoscope will be introduced through the mouth. Whenever an injury is detected, techniques that allow for a better characterization can be performed:

Before the Exam

For the observation to be conclusive and thorough, the stomach must be empty.

Before the exam, an evaluation of your medical history, analyzes and other exams will be carried out at Gastroclinic.

This visit is important for us to clarify doubts regarding the preparation and exam. You will be given written information about exam preparation and informed consent.

on exam day

On the day of the exam you will be met by a nurse at Gastroclinic who will explain the procedures to you. You will be given appropriate clothing for the procedure and then prepared for the examination.

Before the exam starts the Doctor will talk to you and then you will be monitored so that intravenous anesthesia can be administered by an Anesthetist and start the exam.

On average a diagnostic examination will take 15 minutes and a little longer if endoscopic therapy is required.

After the Exam

You will be observed at the Gastroclinic for 30-60 minutes and then you will be served a light meal. Then the Gastroenterologist will explain the results of the exam and schedule an appointment if necessary.

Since you have been given an anesthetic medicine for the test, you should not drive or operate other machines or drink alcohol on the day of the test.

After discharge, you will be able to eat and drink and resume your usual medication (unless medically indicated otherwise). The next day you can resume your normal activity.
